Radical Networks 2019 – NYC

April 21, 2020 by Dave

It was great to get the chance to present a paper, Inforegions – Creating Infrastructural Communities, at this years Radical Networks in NYC. I was mostly reflecting on the surprising direction that the artist’s residency at Edge Hill station had taken me and looked towards bioregionalism as a way of processing the realisation that our […]

ESP8266 Wi-Fi – Getting Started

October 30, 2018 by Dave

I came across these tiny Wi-Fi modules thanks to Brett Balogh’s Wilderness Wireless project presented at Radical Networks. During a residency at Signal Culture, during which I wanted to make a wearable network point, I had time to play with one. It took me a while to get started so I’m sharing my super basic […]

Signal Culture – Owego NY

September 2, 2018 by Dave

I got to spend two weeks as a toolmaker resident at Signal Culture in Owego, upstate New York. I spent the time working with flexible, waterproof solar panels, made by powerfilm, sewing them into a demin jacket, like a Battle Jacket, so they charge a lipo battery which in turn powers a pi zero, via […]

I delivered a paper at Aalborg University Copenhagen as part of E.V.A. (Electronics Visualisation and the Arts) Politics of the Machines – Art and After Conference. I was really excited to be part of a panel that really ranged across the possibilities of what art could be on the internet in an exciting way. The […]

Edge Hill Network – R&D Residency

February 14, 2018 by Dave

Edge Hill Station is a passenger rail station opened in 1836, making it the oldest passenger rail station in the world. It is now also home to METAL, an arts organisation. In January 2018 I began a residency in the station garden to build a local wireless network that broadcast out of the garden. I […]

August 25, 2017 by Dave

During August I have been at Outlandia, an off-grid treehouse artist studio and field station in Glen Nevis, Lochaber, Scotland. During this period I wrote an essay, Art, Neo-Medievalism and Loyalty, and created a mountainside wireless network that showed a short film, Tribute.
