I’m an artist based in Liverpool, U.K.
I’m interested in the ethics of online production and how we make sense of the massive networks we are part of. Over the last few years this has led me to creating small scale networks as artworks. I use cheap, low power computers such as raspberry pi and ESP 8266 boards and try to make the networks as inclusive and sustainable as possible, using solar power and basic web standards. These have appeared in numerous locations, in galleries, on hillsides and in train stations to name a few. I’m also interested in different ways that networks organise those who connect to them and have enjoyed researching bioregionalism to see if there are any clues to how my own small digital networks can have a more nuanced relationship with the other networks that they rely upon.
I have a PhD from the Visual Cultures department at Goldsmiths that looks at retreat as a creative strategy.
I am also a lecturer in Fine Art and Manchester Metropolitan University.
