TV on the Internet; Bergson Inside and Outside the Interface.

wednesday

Earlier this year I wrote a text inspired by a 1980’s twilight zone episode called Wordplay. In it a salesman loses his grip on language, words stop meaning what they are supposed to and mean other things. Apart from being hilarious, it was interesting to me as it looks at what happens when concepts become useless. I relate this to Henri Bergson’s writing around intuition, how philosophy (and by extension art) should be ‘experienced’ rather than conceptualised. The tv show becomes a stand in for philosophy. The text also veers off to talk about the difference between watching tv and watching youtube.

The text is here.

The episode has been taken off line since, but there are highlights here
